#TheGallery – Week 95 – Colour

Tara, over at The Gallery HQ, has set us the theme of “colour” for this week.  Or “color” if you’re from the US and anywhere else that spells English words incorrectly.

I enjoy photography. That doesn’t mean I’m any good at it, not by a long stretch of the imagination. I love it that my phone has a decent camera – certainly the equal of my skill – and I settled on Vignette as my Android photo app of choice.  Then I found this little gizmo on eBay:

Holga turret

What this gives you is 9 filter lenses and 1 empty hole to add effects to photos taken on your iPhone 4 or 4S.  There’s red and green filters, blue and yellow filters with a cutout central hole, 4 clear lenses that split or refract in interesting ways and a red filter with a  heart cut out of the middle.  All good stuff.  Unfortunately, I don’t have an iPhone 4 or 4S, nor am I likely to as I threw my hat into the Android ring some time ago.

No matter.  Never let it be said that I can’t hack with the best of them.  5 minutes work with a very cheap case for my Nexus, some Sugru and this Holga turret et voilà

Clips onto my phone and works very well indeed.  As long as you remember to disable the flash (otherwise you get some very odd effects indeed.

So, testing out with Thing1 yesterday evening, here’s my entry for “Colour”…

Not a bad hack job, positioning could maybe be improved.  And what happens if you leave the flash on?  This:

Ooops
